FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What in the world is this hypnosis thing all about?
It is a trance-like state which accesses the subconscious and superconscious mind.
Hypnosis is a directive approach. It uses the heightened suggestibility of someone to tell them the changes they need to make. Think: ‘you will stop smoking’.
Whaaaaaa? Woah, ok. Now how does that differ from hypnotherapy?
Just as in hypnosis, hypnotherapy is also an altered state of consciousness. Your conscious mind remains present while you delve layers deeper to access your subconscious and superconscious.
As in the name, hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach. In particular, transpersonal hypnotherapy (my jam) is client centered with the core belief that the client holds all of their answers. It is a dialog between the therapist and client where the therapist skillfully helps the client achieve the answers they are looking for.
How does it work?
By inviting your body and mind to enter deep relaxation, your vigilance lowers and the conscious mind takes the perspective as an objective observer while your subconscious is invited to come forward.
It can feel like existing in an in-between state such as the delicate space of waking up from a deep sleep and still being in a bit of a fog before you are fully awake.
How can it help me?
Working with our conscious mind such as talk therapy grants us access to only 10% of our mind. The subconscious holds the remaining 90%. Accessing the subconscious allows for a connection to deeper layers with the self. This means it’s possible to discover and heal parts of your being which are not not readily available through the conscious layer. The subconscious is where our memory bank of emotions, belief systems and survival strategies are stored. Here we can more easily communicate with what’s hidden, get to the root cause, release what no longer serves and fill in lightness.
Will this mean I’ll quack like a duck?
Goodness no. Unless you truly want to - I’m not here to judge you.
What should I expect?
For the first session, you may set your expectations as more open and exploratory. We will begin by addressing what hypnotherapy is & isn’t and your intention. You will be invited to play with a few different ways of experiencing hypnosis and begin to feel what’s possible. We will then discuss if the route of hypnotherapy could be effective for your journey.
I have a busy bee mind (ie: ADHD), will this even work for me?
Yes. Just say so, and we’ll create the space for your mind to have extra breaks, no biggie. Your active mind is welcome here.
